EBay Australia scraps payment methods

EBay Australia is scrapping alternate methods of payment and turning to paypal as the preferred method of payment.

This means no more bank checks or money orders for aussie eBay. Instead eBay Australia is favouring the more secure payment method Paypal.

Even credit card user will have to top up their paypal account first.

EBay says that this is a move towards better security and safety. A member of the aussie computing magazine apc thinks its a negative idea.

Many believe that aussies will flock to alternative online auction sites. Personally I agree and think this could be the end for eBay Australia's domination of the online auction scene. This will be good news in my eyes for competition auction sites, which will fast increase in popularity.

The introduction of the paypal domination over eBay purchases will yield more profits for eBay, eBay insists it will increase safety amongst aussie eBay users. While I agree with this, the fallout I predict will severely hinder eBay Australia's profits.

I think while its a negative thing in my eyes as well as millions of other eBay users, this will open the doors for more competition which should lead to lower prices for the aussie online auction lover.
