Dvd shrink is a free program that allows a user to fit a dual layer dvd movie onto a single layer dvd disc. Dvd shrink does a lot more than just that. It removes copy protection from a dvd movie and also allows a user to remove subtitles as well.

The way it works is allowing a user to shrink the quality of the dvd movie down and also allowing you to remove the 5.1 surround sound and leave only the normal 2 channel sound. Thus leaving the dvd movie much smaller because of the things that have been reduced and removed.

So really its compressing the dvd down by lowering the quality and removing the things you dont need.

As i said above dvd shrink can do a lot more than that. A user can reauthor a dvd meaning you can select which parts or scenes of the dvd you want to keep even adjust the quality of video and remove the 5.1 surround from individual scenes.

Dvd shrink also has a few features to try and make the picture look better when the quality is lowered for shrinking. Just call it a compromise.

When first opening a dvd disc, dvd shrink automatically adjusts the shrinking for the disc size 4.7gb. You can manually adjust it after that.
