Gamespy comrade allows you to connect to quake 3 arena and other gaming servers for games you have on your pc. Its very simple however, your probably going to need gamespy arcade to make it work. Yes game spy arcade is by the same people and is used by millions. Actually i think that microsoft actually recommends it and granted it the new official age of empires 2 multiplayer server. Its not microsoft that owns it im pretty sure they just gave them the right because they were capable.

All of the software ive mentioned here is quite big in size but it should solve your connection and joining problems as long as your firewall allows the following ports. First what is a port you ask me? A port is like a certain door in your pc and if that door is closed by windows or your firewall then nothing that needs that port will work or work properly.

Why would a port be closed by your firewall or windows

Its for security, some ports that are rarely used are closed for security reasons by your firewall or windows to prevent hackers and viruses getting in.
