Speed Up Your PC

Look first impression is that you think this is hard and unsafe, well not true.

I've been doing this for many many years and i have never had a problem (BUT THEY DO HAPPEN)

Is your computer running slow and getting even more by the day?

Well lots of people don't know that there are many things you can do to keep your pc running as fast as the day you first used it.

Follow these steps and you'll be de stressed in no time.

Ok, first things first.

1. First of all always keep your files backed up.

2. If you have files that are just sitting there on your pc and don't get used, back them up.

Files on hard drives slow the pc just a tad, so if you don't need them for a while put them on a disc until you do.

3. Download a trial version of System Mechanic Pro and tweak xp from.\

and

www.totalidea.com

4. Once installed, run system mechanics "Broken Shortcut Finder". Select 'Deep' in all steps. Once found delete all shortcuts found and restart your pc,

What this will do is find all the shortcuts that windows makes to your files that are pointless to have. This will not harm your files in the slightest.

5. Go to the folder on your hard drive //documents and settings/

select the folder that is the user name of the computer

then/ local settings/temp. then delete all files in that folder, don't worry its safe

If some don't delete that's fine, delete them one at a time once windows says that a certain file is in use, do this until the remaining files cant be deleted. Restart your pc

6. Use System Mechanic's registry optimizing tool to back-up your registry, save it on the desktop for safe keeping.

Then go into clean the registry and select 'deep clean' open the options and make sure all the registry types are selected. Then hit search, once finished select all and delete. Then go back and select compact and defragment the registry, select compact and defragment the registry next time the pc is restarted. Then restart your pc.

Go into tweak xp's registry tool and do the same, BUT ALSO BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY WITH TWEAK XP. and restart of course.

7. Open system mechanic and select defragment hard drives (make sure any thumb drives or USB drives are removed).

Select options and select 'ignore prefetch files'. Then select deep as i said earlier and start defragmenting (could take 5 minutes up to over an hour).

Once finished go into defragment system files select all 3 system files and select this time only and restart.

That's it your done your pc should be running a lot faster, do this every 3-4 weeks and you will be doing great.

System Mechanic 7 Pro is now released and comes with Iolo Anti Virus and Firewall apposed to the old Kaspersky.

More and more releases of system mechanic pro have been released. eg system mechanic 7.6.

The first two builds of system mechanic 7 were extremely dodgy, almost like they had been rushed heavily.

System mechanic 7 and at least one build after were riddled with problems, me being a huge fan of iolo and all their products actually uninstalled system mechanic 7 due to the strange problems it caused other programs i had running.

Seeing that its been many months since the last build update of system mechanic 7, im now about to start the trial of the latest build. I will keep you posted on the quality this time.

Kaspersky antivirus and kaspersky firewall in my mind are a good set of internet security programs.

Kaspersky also have kaspersky internet security, i haven't had much dealings with kaspersky internet security but as previous kaspersky products have been i would have a decent amount of trust towards kaspersky products i have not tried.

Look this is a great tool and definitely a must have.

Diskeeper pro is one of the greatest things ive ever seen. Heres more on diskeeper pro.

This program will defragment your pc a hell of a lot better then the one that is included by Microsoft.

Heres some interesting info, the creators of diskeeper actually built parts of the windows defragmenter for microsoft.

It includes many more features such as:

* Boot time defragmenting

* Frag shield which adjusts your page file and MFT to optimum levels as stated by Microsoft

* Automatic defragmentation which defragments automatically in the back ground and is almost invisible with the computer running at pretty much the same speed while this is going on.

* Ifaast speeds up your pc by intelligently sequencing your files

these features can be disabled and enabled at any time and also set to run at specific times.

Spyware Doctor Is a very thorough spyware program.

AVG is really a great program its thorough and comes in many versions, one being a free version of just the anti virus program which is great.

If u want all the features you need the AVG Internet Security Suite. or lower features with avg antivirus free edition

AVG has frequent updates for the application and virus definitions.

Its great and has saved my arse on many occasions but is a shame it doesn't work when installed with System Mechanic 7 at the moment but down the track it may work with some improvements on Iolo's System Mechanic and Grisoft AVG behalf..
