HonestTech Easy Video Converter is a great video encoding program.
It works seamlessly using the latest codec's such as, DIVX, MPEG 4 and MPEG 2
The Program isn't incredibly greedy on resources but you can decide for yourself,
Honestech makes taking specific parts out of a video and joining video together easy. There is just about every setting found in almost every good video program inside. Also the individual codec setting such as DIVX can be tweaked.
Splitting and joining video is very easy with just a click of a button and the selecting of a few settings you desire.
The interface when working with honest tech is great. The main window has 2 main sections, The Top for the video preview and the bottom for the files you wish to join and have split.
This is a very productive video editing program.

WIN AVI is a great program for converting video in just about every format out there.
The application is easy to use and looks nice as well as not hogging to much of your precious resources.
There is also a win avi mpeg 4 video converter that takes it one step further.
Win avi mp4 edition is the same layout but just different video converting modes and the colour is green rather than red.
Both are very simple and productive programs.
I prefer to use these programs rather than the bundled software that's provided with most portable multimedia players.
Don't be put off by my brief description of these programs, they are very in-depth
